The Harmony of Becoming
For much of my life, I thought becoming meant changing. Becoming more successful. More confident. More spiritual. More accomplished. A better version of myself. But as I examine my life more deeply, I’m beginning to wonder if becoming is actually something quite different.
Perhaps it isn’t about adding more to ourselves at all. Perhaps it is about shedding what no longer belongs: old identities, expectations, fears, and stories that once protected us but now keep us from fully expressing who we are.
There is a beautiful harmony in realizing that reinvention and remembrance are not opposites. We reinvent our lives as we remember ourselves. We make different choices because we see ourselves differently. And little by little, the distance between who we are on the inside and how we live on the outside begins to disappear.
Maybe that is what becoming really is: not turning into someone new, but finally allowing ourselves to live as the person who has been there all along.
Question for Reflection: What might you become if you stopped trying to become someone else and simply allowed yourself to be more fully you?
